I really want a job this summer, but my counselor didn't get me the form in January when it was going on. But I talked to this man at the Personel at the Police Department for the Visually Impaired. He was trying to help me find one too. But its been three weeks since I saw him. He said he would put my name out there for whoever need any employs but he still haven't contacted me. (He did thi before. Not contacting me.) So I had to contact him. But now I'm trying to look for a job myself now. Any suggestions for any blind internships.

I am having the same issue. I was trying to get a job but nobody would even help me get a job.

Not really sure what Police Department for the Visually Impaired is?
I would not depend on someone to find me a job. Why don't you be proactive, talk to your counselor about practiciing approaching businesses about hiring you. Talk about strengths and skills, plus what types of jobs your could perform. Things that you know you can do.
Go out and look for a job -- call businesses and do some research, then go and get applications, set up interviews. You need to be applying for jobs, getting a job is a job all to itself. Plus, this is a great learning experience. You will learn a ton by just appling for jobs and doing this. Have you checked out the Job Seeker's Toolkit on CareerConnect. You register for free on CareerConnect to be a user, then you can utilize this free online course on getting prepared for the job hunt. There are tips and more. Check it out! www.afb.org/cc
You can find it under What's New.
I am a bit biased because I wrote this course with a great team.
But, get out there and become part of the process. Your counselor will work with you more if they know you are putting forth the effort.
I hope this helps!

I have signed up with Career Connect. But I still don't understand parts of it. I tried to contact a mentor, but she sent me back a message and didn't reply to it.

Did the mentor respond with in your text, where you had asked questions and such? I would double check.
If not, send another message and mention that you don't think their message came through correctly.
Did you check out the Job Seeker's Toolkit?
Hope this helps!

Are there any mentors near Hesperia?
Re:Summer Job?Posted by Joe S on 7/15/2011 at 9:15 AM
Have you attempted searching for a mentor on AFB CareerConnect through the mentor search?
We also have the Career Clusters message boards which is monitored by mentors. You have posted on these prior.
I don't think your location is really important since this in an online mentoring program. Have you searched our mentor database and attempted to contact them. You have to register for free on AFB CareerConnect, takes a few minutes to do this and then get started. The mentor's job title is the link to send them a message, select that link and write them.
Start with and intro, a little about yourself.
Then, tell them why you chose them.
Then, ask a couple questions that you were curious about their career.
Then close and thank them for their time.
You can copy and paste this into a few messages to mentors to get better results.
The most recent mentors come up at the top your search results.
Hope this helps!
Are you active in any of the consumer groups in your area such as National Federation of the Blind or American Council of the Blind?
