School Starts Tomorrow
Posted by Brie96 on 8/28/2011 at 5:12 PM
School is starting tomorrow! I don't know if anyone else has started yet, but I'm not very excited. I don't know the way too all 8 of my classes because my mobility teacher and I didn't get a chance to walk through my whole schedule. I only know how to get to my first 3 classes. My high school is really big to; I think it's the second largest high school in Ohio! And on top of that, she's not going to be there the first day of school, so tomorrow I'm on my own. She'll be there the second day but the first day is really going to suck.
On the bright side, I got a new apex, and a victor reader stream so I won't have to carry around as much braille as I did last year. Does anyone else start school, or did everyone already start?

I already have tons of mobility skills, but when I graduated high school, my mobility instructor said I didn't need him anymore. I still do want to do something with rides, not build rides, maybe if possible, test rides, or be a maintinance person for the rides and go in to engineering. It must not be that crazy if my Department Of Rehabilitaton counselor reccommended it when she met me 2 years ago. But life is different now, I would really just want to get a guide dog, and go to school and become a teacher for the blind if the roller coaster thing doesn't work out. I might now know much about psychology, but youre absolutely right, because I weuld feel too uneasy counseling someone and giving them advice.

Well, that's an great improvement from since I talked to you last. so, I am glad you're traveling down life a better way now. and I'd try learning some mobility skills too. actually I would call it orientation, which I always find more important. I am hoping you don't still have this funny strange idea of building rollercoasters and stuff? religion, psychology, math, or animals do sound a ton more realistic, though I must admit I don't know how good at psych you'd be, though, you dont strike me as a good psych person. Unless your attitude about life and personality has majorly changed. I must admit who you were a few months back or was that a year back or whenever you talked to me last would not please me being my psychologist, it would make me feel very uneasy.

Not only that Rachel, I'm starting daily living skills training tomorrow. And in college, I want to study religion, psychology, math, and anything to do with animals.

well, that's at least something...... glad you're going to college and sort of doing something about your life and stuff.
So, what exactly do you want to major in, sarah?
Re:School Starts TomorrowPosted by Thrill Monster on 9/1/2011 at 12:05 PM
Yes Rachel, I am going to college, and daily living skills training. I may go away for daily living skills training.
Re:School Starts TomorrowPosted by rachel N on 9/1/2011 at 1:26 AM
are you going to college then, sarah?
geometry isn't a problem class, just take it. blind people can take geometry. I even got an a in it. I didn't dare mess around in jami smith's class, she's a sharp lady. So, I got an a and she was a good one about all the notes being brailled. and she was nice enough to offer and get wooden three dee figures for me. hahaha! hmmm.... but it's a requirement so please don't drop it, you'll have a harder time later.

I can't wait to go to college! I actually miss school, I miss having stuff to do.
Re:School Starts TomorrowPosted by Wingman on 8/30/2011 at 9:50 PM
I wanted to drop Geometry because i don't have that many working accommodations right now since my vision has changed so much. Plus i had a discriminating EC teacher that made my life heck last semester. She told me i was lazy and i don't have a clue why. Anyways I don't have any sort of assistant at the moment so i don't get any more help than any other student. I'm thinking about asking if i could have a substitution for the class.
the VI is coming this week so i hope to figure out some things that work.
At least i'll actually be able to listen to my RFB&D this year thanks to the Victor Stream I'm waiting on in the mail

well good luck all with high school. as to me I am the class of 2011 here at least in high school, I might be the year 2016 or 2017 here now. I am in college so we started last week, my second week of college! haha! I have class in a little more than half an hour and I still haven't read the assignment I am suppose to read yet, ah well.
I have 12 credit hours just enough for a full time student. liking my three classes already arrrrrgh! I'll have to deal with math sometimes in the future. arrrrrgh! I am suppose to take psychology statistics, I only did up to algebra too, sooo, and I was thoroughly confused in that class. anyway, I had my struggles here already last week, and the week before, I know my campus alright now, just got to walk a few blocks up to the upper campus in a bit! drat! and in this cold northern california weather too! doesn't that just sound thrilling, eh?

I have geometry this year, and I have it for a whole year. Why did you want to drop out? Do you have someone to help you in that class? My TVI is in that class with me just because a lot of it is very visual.

I'm also glad your first day went well! I know you will have your routes down soon, keep the positive attitude. I know how those halls can be, it gets tough to get through at times, but you get it down.
Both styles of schedules have their positives and negatives. Keep plugging away! Ah, Geometry, I don't think that was my favorite class. I did like US History a lot.
Have a great year!!!

wow i'm glad i don't have a schedule like that i haven't had it since i was in middle school. At my school we have the block system. it has it's advantages but it also has its disadvantages. The big advantage is if you have a teacher you don't like you just got to make it to December with them. The big disadvantage is you have to learn a brand new route the next semester. i wish i had study hall.
I'm glad your first day went well.
Re:School Starts TomorrowPosted by Brie96 on 8/29/2011 at 10:10 PM
My first day went pretty well. I had to have someone help me after almost every class, but that's ok because I'll only have to do that for a few more days, then I'll have learned where all my classes are. My school has about 4000 kids in it so it's really crowded.
And yes, we do have 8 classes and it's 8 classes every quarter. Sometimes people have a study hall but I don't. Also one of those 8 classes is lunch so it's technically only 7.

I got great news i got to drop Geometry today. The worst part about it tho was in order to drop it i had to consult "the IEP Bureau " at the county office ugh. It took forever Which now i'm in US History and am enjoying it even tho i'm going to have to do some catch up
Let me know how your first day went?
Re:School Starts TomorrowPosted by Thrill Monster on 8/29/2011 at 3:48 PM
No, thank God I am already graduated from misserable hig school. Ask a teacher for hel, that's what I do, I was always on my own.
Re:School Starts TomorrowPosted by Joe S on 8/29/2011 at 9:57 AM
FYI: I worked at a school of 4,400 students and I definitely got lost in the beginning (I was a teacher). I went in early in the morning to explore and try and learning the building and started with very basic over lapping routes. It will all work out!
Re:School Starts TomorrowPosted by Joe S on 8/29/2011 at 9:49 AM
Let us know how it goes. I am sure it will work out. If you need assistance, just ask for it. Be cool and calm, have some fun. I know you will have some friends going to the same classes. You can make it through!
Keep your head up!

I started school last Thursday. Don't worry i'm sure you'll do fine. At least you don't have to dodge bulldozers all day long. That's what i had to do all last year. They are still building but i'm luckily only in the main building and the two Anex buildings. A teacher or some one can certainly point you in the right direction.
I and my mom did a walk through my schedule the day before school started. It seemed to be a simple enough route. Right now i'm trying to drop my geometry class. At least for this semester. One of the teachers in there made my life heck last semester and i don't want a repeat. Which i'm enjoying the rest of my classes pretty good but then again almost all of them are fun classes.
Eight classes? is that in one semester?
I only have four at a time.
