Re: Summer

Well I have been taking world religions which is an online class, I have been doing some work for somebody I know, and I have been riding my horse. I am staying pretty busy. I am going to a mini camp for blind and VI people like me in a few weeks. Latter on before school starts back I am going to the beach for a week.

Re: Summer

Mine's been going okay so far, still waiting on word from guide dogs. I'm going to the beach tomorrow. Talk about a short notice trip i just found out yesterday. So far up to this point its been fairly uneventful. I've been walking to the dollar store a lot this week. Trying to get my mileage in for cross country. I got fitted with some nice running shoes that help me run even with my balance issues. I feel like my grandma's trying to cripple me. She keeps trying to talk me out of cross country among other things.
around mid july early august i'm planning to go to this camp at Govenor Morehead school for the blind called Savy unless guide dogs contacts me. It sounds like a lot of fun.

Re: Summer

Cool, Are you waiting to hear if you got approved?
Guide Dogs for the Blind in CA?
Is this your first Guide Dog?
I have a guide dog, I got mine in Oct. 2011
I went to Guiding Eyes for the Blind, I had a blast!
Are you still in school?
I hope they call you soon, I know how it feels to be waiting on a phone call! :) Good luck with cross country! :)

Re: Summer

I might go to savy next year. I kinda know what the grandma thing is like. Try talking to her about things. She doesn't want you to get hurt. Sometimes they don't realize that they are crippling you. Sometimes you might have to go against their wishes and make them mad. After they get over it usually they realize that you can do things.

Re: Summer

Pretty much, last I heard they wanted to talk to my neurologist and a O&m wasn't nearby. And yeah that's the place.yeah it's my first guide dog. I've been on summer break about three weeks now. The beach has been a blast so far. Yesterday I went to the hard rock cafe and got splattered by food and a new shirt. Ha ha lucky and unlucky at the same time
I've tried talking to her but it doesn't work. We end up gettin in a yelling fight every time. It took my doctor to get it through her skull that I couldnt see and that my eye condition is different from my ants

Re: Summer

I have spent my summer at Jba, in Dpi. I am off for the week, not sure what I'm going to do. So far, it's been eventful in the past few months. I got accepted in to Guide Dogs, I just have to graduate Dpi first. What kind of guide dog do you have? What's your dog's name?

Re: Summer

Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm happy for you that you have been accepted.
I'm pretty much on pause right now with mine they are talking to the doctors

Re: Summer

I remember that long process...

Re: Summer

Yeah, right now my big problem is my main medical doctor didn't look at or get all the information from duke on my last seizure that was almost a year ago, so they are having to contact my neurologist about it. Plus there isn't a O&M nearby currently to do that part either. huh, maybe i'll get word soon. I'm happy for you on getting your dog.

Re: Summer

Wingman if GDB doesn't work out my O&M told me there is a place around raliegh I think called MIRA it is a really new place that I cant really find to much info on.

Re: Summer

Oh, I'll have to look into that

Re: Summer

I should have my future dog guide in about 4 months.

Re: Summer

Cool! i hope to hear word by then

Re: Summer

If I hear word from GDD I'll let everyone know what happens.

Re: Summer

cool

Re: Summer

They turned me down for a dog because of a screwed up medical report and told me to reapply next year. I'm looking at maybe applying to Leader dogs right now. As interesting as Mira seems i don't like the idea of going all the way up to Canada for 30 days but, yeah wish me luck
Lindsay

Re: Summer

I am so sorry Lindsay! I remember how sad I was when I was first turned down.

Re: Summer

Lets hope this one will work out. Congrats on getting your guide dog.

Re: Summer

I hope I can make it through the one-month training course away from home.

Re: Summer

I'm sure you will

Re: Summer

Wow who denied you? I went to Guiding Eyes for the Blind.
Congrats to whoever got accepted!
The one month training will go by FAST!
It was easy for me but I also have 3 pet dogs.
My Guide Dog is a Female Yellow Lab, her name is Donna. :)

Re: Summer

Guide dogs for the blind. They denied me and i can't say i know why either other than the medical report being screwed up anyways. I have high hopes for Leader dogs though. Which now i'm even more nervous about hoping i get accepted this time. Which at least i got the medical reports figured out and Leader dogs doesn't require as many either so that's good.

Re: Summer

I don't like how Gdb trains their dogs. That soudt like a beautiful dog you have.
