AFB is just trying to look out for you, it is precaution, we would hope that you limit your release of information on other sites as well. We work to not allow it on the TeenConnect message board for obvious reasons. I totally understand your want to connect in other formats. But, it is our policy on this message board. Many have created great connections via this message board, and many have grown to provide and receive advice through this vehicle. We can't stop you from sharing information through other forumes, but hope that you would use caution. We want TeenConnect to be a safe and friendly place to interact. Thank you so much for understanding. Feel free to interact on here all you want. All the best!

I love reading and writing and baking lol are u a twilight fan? What r your fave books?
Re: looking for friendsPosted by Tamara-Lynn on 11/2/2012 at 5:01 PM
Mmmm.. Twilights ok, definitely great for a traditionally published book, but I don't read many books published by one of the "Big 6". 99% of the time I read Indie books, which are books written by a self-published author or published by a small publishing house. Some of my peronal favorites are Shelly Crane, Tammara Webber, Airicka Phoenix, Colleen Hoover, etc. All my faves are Indies, though

Hi Alison and Tamara-Lynn! Here's the link for the website. I also have a forum that I am trying to start up as well. Free to check everything out. the website is still kind of under construction. There is a comments section at the bottom of each page of the website. Unfortunately only owners and callaborators of the site can comment. I am going to find a way around that so every one can post. I love reading, anything to do with horses, bowling, hanging out with a small group of friends, and investigating the human mind. I am almost 18. My birthday is a week before Christmas on the 17th. it makes me feel really old. Currently I am taking my last high school class. I would also be taking a load of college classes but I fell from my horse Beauty and they found that my C1 vertebra was pretty much almost gone. So I had surgery and I am recovering from that right now. As far as my favorite movie, that is really hard to say. However my favorite TV show is The Walking Dead.

Re: looking for friendsPosted by Thrill Monster on 11/5/2012 at 10:33 PM
I have never had a horse accident yet, except the time I fell off our horse with my mom. But we landed in soft sand and there wasn't even a scratch.
Re: looking for friendsPosted by abass on 11/5/2012 at 11:55 PM
I've hit rock hard ground and really soft sand and soil that crops where planted in. You would think the hard ground would hurt more but when I had my accident I landed in that soft soil. I had a traumatic brain injury, bad concision, and I had a nasty bruise on my right elbow. For about 3 weeks I did nothing but sleep. Literally I slept almost all day except for am hour to eat and all night. My mama took me to another hospital and they did a lot of testing. They thought I had had a stroke. Then they saw that my neck was messed up. Now I am recovering from a stbilization surgery. I was told that I should have become a quadrapolegic. If I hadn't had been wearing a helment I would have died.
Re: looking for friendsPosted by Joe S on 11/6/2012 at 2:07 PM
Wow, thank goodness for the helmet and helmets in general. How long ago was the accident?
What kinds of services have you connected to since getting home?
Have your goals changed? I would totally re-evaluate my goals, and start planning objectives for the future. Things you want to accomplish and push toward. I know this has a been a huge part of my life and helped me look past some obstacles. I don't know all of your background, but goal setting is a lifetime activity. I still set goals and objectives for myself.
How have the injuries impacted you?
We are here for you! Keep making it happen!
Re: looking for friendsPosted by horsegal2012 on 11/7/2012 at 9:27 AM
I hope you have a good recovery keep me posted. Just putting this out there but does anyone else hear struggle with severe anxiety/depression?
Re: looking for friendsPosted by Tamara-Lynn on 11/7/2012 at 10:15 AM
horsegal2012, I'm only answering this because nobody knows who I am here, but yes. I have had to stay on medication for almost 2 years now because of severe depression. it has nothing to do with my vision (that I know of(, but because of other circumstances, and probably everything put together, I tried to commit suicide in 2010, december. I was given the option of going into a physc ward, or going on medicatio.
Re: looking for friendsPosted by horsegal2012 on 11/7/2012 at 10:20 AM
so glad to know someone understands I have considered suicide and I struggle with cutting and I am also on medication and go to therapy but I started out with a christian counselor and I felt very close to him but my mom stopped letting me see him cause she thinks I need more help than he can provide so I am having a very very hard time with it.
Re: looking for friendsPosted by Tamara-Lynn on 11/7/2012 at 10:46 AM
I ent to therapy the first 2-ish weeks after it happened, but the guy made me feel like s.. are we allowed to cuss on here? probably not.. ok, he made me feel like crap, so we stopped going, and i havent wanted to try anyone else.
Re: looking for friendsPosted by Thrill Monster on 11/7/2012 at 2:16 PM
Hi Allison, I suifer from depression, anxiety and Ocd. I tried committing suicide mj 2008 and 2009. I went to a mental hospital in 2006. My depression has gotten a little better since my guide dog, Wizard came in to my life. But I still feel empty and sad like I have no purpose. I just go for walks to nowhere in particular.
Re: looking for friendsPosted by Joe S on 11/7/2012 at 3:33 PM
It sounds like you are both dealing with a number of tough issues. In my eyes, it never hurts to have multiple persons to speak to about issues. I know I utilized multiple sources when dealing with tough issues. I am glad you both sought help and understand the situation. Persons deal with all kinds of issues, and some are much tougher than vision loss. I can't imagine what you both have dealt with, and I am glad you have accepted help. Some persons don't let people know, it takes someone brave to allow people to know what they are battling.
Also, thank you for leaving out the bad words, I appreciate the self monitoring. Thank you both for sharing! We are always here, and if you need other resources, let us know. I have refered persons to other rescources that can help.
Keep your head up, and thank you for being so honest!
Re: looking for friendsPosted by Joe S on 11/7/2012 at 3:36 PM
Another thought, not every therapist, psychologist, psychiatrist, or counselor will meet a persons needs. If a professional such as you described is not the best fit, this is something for you to decide. Hope that makes sense. We all need different things.
Re: looking for friendsPosted by Joe S on 11/7/2012 at 3:42 PM
Even more thought, if you don't feel you have a purpose, it can be beneficial to explore. We may not know what we want out of life, but exploring options. Sometimes the best way to help ourselves is to help others. I know we have discussed volunteering on here, and you are located in an area that makes it difficult.
Explore what you can get to in your area, such as schools, churches, organizations, senior centers, or anything. Also, you can volunteer virtually. Thjere are websites dedicated to just finding volunteer experiences in areas.
I still volunteeer, it allows me to be a part of my community, meet people, and network -- plus, I get to help a cause.
Just some food for thought.

Re: looking for friendsPosted by horsegal2012 on 11/8/2012 at 11:57 AM
I know what u mean about animals helping u feel better I have a cat renesmee who sleeps with me every night but what u said bout feeling like u have no purpose I totally understand everyone keeps pressuring me to make more adult decisions and I am just not ready I can't really picture myself doing anything the only thing I really want to do is be a singer and actress and demi lovato really inspires me I would love to work with her we have a lot in common and I want to go on x factor but I have really bad social anxiety so I don't know if I can make it that far
Re: looking for friendsPosted by Joe S on 11/9/2012 at 12:02 PM
Totally take your time, you have to work at your own time. It is important to take care of yourself which include exercise, nutrition, and mental / cognitive health. We often neglect different aspects of all of these things, and as we become stressed it doesn't get any better -- our view of things gets smaller as well.
Keep exploring, trying to explore the acting, singing and related areas of those fields. There are tons of related professions as you explore those careers. It sounds like you have passion, keep that passion, it keeps us moving.
All the best!

Re: looking for friendsPosted by Thrill Monster on 12/21/2012 at 12:39 PM
I don't have any personal friends, just online friends. The friends I made at Dpi all live too far away to hang out.

I know of two blind people who have considered suicide. I felt so sad when they told me their stories and I almost cried because I couldn't picture them commiting suicide. I know it's stupid to cry about but I did anyway. We're always here for you!
