- 1942-April 1951: Outlook for the Blind and The Teachers Forum
- May 1951-1976: New Outlook for the Blind
- 1977-Present: Journal of Visual Impairment & Blindness
The year 2006 marked the centennial of the Journal of Visual Impairment & Blindness (JVIB). Originally entitled Outlook for the Blind, and later New Outlook for the Blind, JVIB has always kept professionals up-to-date on all the major developments and trends of the field of visual impairment and blindness, serving as the cornerstone of the field's literature for a century. The time line enclosed in these pages offers contemporary readers a look back at the major events in the life and times of the journal over the past 100 years. As JVIB continues to grow, so will the time line. In the coming months and years, we encourage readers to revisit this page to see what has been added.
This time line was compiled by Sheila Amato, Ed.D., retired special education teacher and teacher of students with visual impairments and adjunct assistant professor of education, Dominican College-New York, New Mexico State University, Pennyslvania College of Optometry, and University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
