The Senior Adult Services program at Alphapointe uses occupational therapists to provide vision rehabilitation services to older adults. Vision rehabilitation teaches individuals safety, independent living skills and methods to best their vision.
The goal of vision rehabilitation is the patient's active participation and enjoyment of those activities of value and importance to him/her. Those activities could include but are not limited to: reading, cooking, sewing, or managing finances. We arm the patient with the tools and techniques necessary to maximize his/her functional vision.
The program is a collaboration between patient and the occupational therapist to meet the patient's unique needs. Training is provided to improve one's independent living skills through the use of vision aids, adaptive equipment, lighting, and modified techniques. We provide hands-on training that can be provided at Alphapointe and/or in the client's home.
We serve the Greater Kansas City area and anyone can make a referral by calling Angie Bowers at 816-237-2051. Our services are covered by Medicare Part B and many other health insurance companies.
