Biography: Alan J. Koenig

Photo of Alan Koenig Alan J. Koenig, Ed.D., is Professor and Associate Dean of Graduate Education in the College of Education at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. He received his doctoral degree from Vanderbilt University in 1987 and has been preparing teachers of students with visual impairments since that time. Previously, he taught children with visual impairments and served as a state consultant in visual impairment for the state of Iowa. Dr. Koenig is actively involved in professional organizations and has served as the president of the Division on Visual Impairments of the Council for Exceptional Children. He is a leading researcher in the education of students who are blind or visually impaired whose work includes examining the development of literacy skills for visually impaired students.
