| ||For 17 years, Lucia Hasty taught students who were blind or visually impaired, students with learning disabilities, and students with other disabilities. She has also held administrative positions in the field for 18 years, including coordinating a curriculum development project, a recreational facility for children and adults with disabilities, and Colorado's state Instructional Materials Center for students with visual disabilities.
Lucia currently serves as an independent consultant presenting workshops and developing training materials on tactile graphics for a variety of audiences. She has served as the chair of the tactile graphics committee of Braille Authority of North America (BANA), as the co-chair of the BANA/Canadian Braille Authority Joint Committee, as the past chair of the tactile graphics committee of the National Braille Association, and is a member of the tactile graphics committee of International Council on English Braille. She has taught higher education courses as adjunct professor and serves on a number of research and development projects relating to tactile graphics.
Lucia has authored many articles for professional journals. She is the co-author of the 2010 BANA Guidelines and Standards for Tactile Graphics, and also is the co-author of the upcoming curriculum, The Secret Language of Lines: A Curriculum for Achieving Graphicacy.
