Biography: Maureen A. Duffy
Maureen A. Duffy, M.S., RTC, is Director of the Master of Science and Certificate Programs in Rehabilitation Teaching, and Assistant Professor, Department of Graduate Studies in Vision Impairment, at the Institute for the Visually Impaired, Pennsylvania College of Optometry, in Elkins Park. As a member of the Advisory Board of Associates for World Action in Rehabilitation and Education (AWARE) and their Central European Project, she assisted in the development of gerontological content for the Polish-American Postgraduate Teacher Training and Orientation and Mobility at Akademia Pedagogiki Specjalnej im. Marii Grzegorzewskiej (Maria Grzegorzewska Academy of Special Education), Warsaw, Poland, where she is an adjunct faculty member. Ms. Duffy is a certified rehabilitation teacher and previously worked at a number of community agencies. Ms. Duffy has written and edited a number of books, chapters, and articles about the needs of older people with vision loss, here as well as in Poland, and has presented many papers and workshops at conferences in the United States and abroad. She is currently President of Division 11 (Rehabilitation Teaching) of the Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired (AER) and received the 1999-2000 Educator of the Year Award from the Department of Graduate Studies, Pennsylvania College of Optometry.
