Description of Independent Living
The independent living area addresses the activities necessary to take care of one’s self, family, and home to be able to live as independently as possible. This chapter tackles such factors as organization, cooking and eating, time and money management, among others, and teaching strategies such as task analysis, routines, and guidance. It emphasizes the importance of adults learning to step back and allowing for wait time so students are given sufficient time and space to act independently. Learning activities are provided at the end of the chapter.
