Description of Visual Activities for Children from 12 to 18 Months of Age
Chapter 8 provides visual activities for babies from 12 to 18 months of age. These include activities that encourage the child to visually scan an object or a light source; help the child to look at objects or people in the distance and put them into focus; stimulate the child to examine pictures, objects, or people in detail; help the child to accurately gauge distance and perceive things in three dimensions; encourage the child to recognize people in the environment, make eye contact with them, and point them out by distinguishing one from another; help the child with coordination of eye and hand movement; help the child to distinguish one object from another; encourage the child to recall things that were previously seen; encourage the child to attend to a picture or an object and distinguish it from its background information; and encourage the child to see an object or toy, reach for it, and then manipulate it according to the properties of the toy.
