In establishing the recording program for blind and visually impaired persons, AFB enlisted noted actors and a wide range of materials. Volunteer recordists contributed their talents starting in 1947. This chapter also describes improvements in technology, research into voice compression and other techniques, and the role of the Library of Congress in making recordings widely available.
