Description of Moving to Learn Series: Adapted PE for Students with Visual Impairments

This four-part webinar series is designed to show how students with visual impairments can participate in regular physical education and activities. Co-produced with AER, the Moving to Learn Series: Adapted PE for Students with Visual Impairments is presented by known experts in the field of adapted physical education. The cost of the series is $159; individual webinars are $49 each if purchased separately. Each pre-recorded webinar is approximately 60 minutes long and has been approved for continuing education credit by ACVREP.

Moving to Learn Webinar 1: An Overview of Adapted Physical Education for People with Visual Impairment

Presented by: Lauren J. Lieberman, Ph.D.,
The College at Brockport-Kinesiology, Sport Studies & Physical Education

This presentation will teach the participants about visual impairments as well as various motor needs of children with VI. The presentation will discuss general instructional techniques as well as adaptations necessary to work with children with VI. The participants will also learn tactile instructional techniques, guide running techniques and information related to sports and individuals with VI. At the end resources will be shared.

Moving to Learn Webinar 2: Object Control Skills and Motor Development in Children with Visual Impairments and Blindness

Presented by: Pamela Haibach, Ph.D., Motor Development Specialist, College at Brockport

This presentation by Dr. Haibach will provide the definition and importance of object control skills and the associated tasks of throwing, catching, kicking and striking. It will also provide guidelines for object control skill instruction.

Moving to Learn Webinar 3: Locomotor Skills and Motor Development in Children with Visual Impairments and Blindness

Presented by: Pamela Haibach, Ph.D., Motor Development Specialist, College at Brockport

In this presentation Dr. Haibach will provide the definition and importance of locomotor skills, the developmental progression of locomotor skills and touch on the skills of running, jumping, hopping, leaping and galloping. Dr. Haibach will provide games and activities as well as guidelines for instruction.

Moving to Learn Webinar 4: Physical Activity for Youth and Adolescents with Visual Impairments

CAPE, The Ohio State University

It has been well-documented that physical activity can have a positive impact on overall health. However, school-aged individuals with visual impairments tend to be less active then their sighted peers, as well as others with disabilities. The purpose of this webinar is to discuss strategies to improve physical activity participation for students with visual impairments.
