Description of A Cognitive Basis for Teaching Cane Travel
Abstract: This article presents a rationale for emphasizing discovery instruction over guided instruction in teaching cane travel. Discovery instruction facilitates the use of intrinsic feedback to cultivate important perceptual-cognitive skills. It promotes problem solving and the retention and transfer of skills because the demands of performance during training are the same as those the student will confront after training is completed.
