Description of Teaching Social Skills Chapter 4 - Theoretical Perspectives on the Development of Social Skills in Adolescence
This chapter reviews several models of human development that are based on research concerning adolescents and young adults who do not have disabilities. It then presents an overview of both biological and social development during adolescence, including consideration of the impact visual impairment may have on these processes. Research studies dealing specifically with the impact of visual impairment on social development during adolescence are discussed. The concluding section examines a critical developmental process in young people’s lives: the evolution from dependence to independence and, finally, to interdependence.
