Description of Teaching Social Skills Chapter 13 - Teaching Social Skills to Students with Multiple Disabilities
The focus in this chapter is on young people of all ages who have visual impairments and additional disabilities. The authors present a classification system that looks specifically at the individual student’s need for intervention and focus on those with the greatest needs. They also describe different styles of learning so that teachers and families can maximize students’ efforts. Strategies are offered for promoting social relationships and communication for students with multiple disabilities, and specific strategies and instructional techniques are suggested for students who have hearing, physical, or cognitive impairments in addition to visual impairments.
