Abstract: Helen Keller was the ideal spokesperson for AFB. This chapter describes the foundation’s recruitment of Keller and its difficult relations with her teacher and companion, Anne Sullivan Macy. The endowment drive proposed by Macy in 1924 never really succeeded and was dropped in 1936. Keller remained widely admired and important to AFB until her death in 1968.
