Abstract: In the 1920s AFB faced a wide range of challenges. The author describes AFB programs in teacher and vocational training, periodicals, aids for blind and visually impaired persons, and legislative efforts. The advent of radio programs opened a new field of effort. In 1929, Robert Irwin became the first full-time director of AFB.
