Expanding possibilities for people with vision loss

Blind Bike Trials Rider Video, please atleast read it if you can't see it.

So here is a video of me riding my trials bike. I know that most of you arn't going to beable to see it, but I hope that someone could explain what is going on in the video to you.

I really hope that this will inspire some of you that are down in the dumps about your vision loss.

I am blind and I have been for a few years. I lost my vision due to diabetes. I was depressed for a while but I didn't let tthat hold me back from what I loved to do.

I had to relearn how to ride my bike all over again. I had to learn it in a completely different way then I once knew.

Anyway here is a link to U Tube where the video is. If nothing else could you pass it along to someone that you think that it could help motivate.

Link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9f7FlQhDihM

Thanks so much for looking.

Let me know what you think.

Matt.

Matt;

I have never heard of bike TRIALS,.....but you make it seem easy. I had a bad bike wreck a couple of months ago, and I can see!

I just watched Matt video on youtube, and it's really amazing how someone with determination can achieve almost anything. Bike trials is something really hard to achieve, moreover mastering the ART of trials that's something few people can do. I just watched the movie " Touch the Top of the World", it's based on a true story of a blind guy who climbs Mount Everest, after watching that movie it made me think that anybody can achieve anything, no matter any physical impediment. Angelina hope this words will encourage you achieve all your dreams.

I don't really like books that much, mainly because I don't know what I like. As far as music I pretty much listen to everything. I like Punk the most closely followed by older hip hop. Pretty much anything though. I have never traveled outside the USA. I really want too but I never really looked into it nor did I have any money to do so.

You know, you say you don't have friends to go out with, at least, you say not usually.. It is the same for me too.. And, this makes my problems even more "impossible" to cope with.. I'm happy to have found someone to talk with, though it is only through the internet.. I'm happy to realize you understand what I'm going through.. Even though I've always been blind, it is so hard for me to live with this burden every single day... Do you like reading? What is your favorite kind of music? Have you ever traveled to Italy? Would you like to? I'have travled to Canada to attend some English lessons at the famous York University, which is in the center of the city of Toronto.. I'm planning to get back there in the month of June, but I have to find someone who wants to come with me.. I'have a friend of mine who is probably going there for the same reason as me, the problem is that she is 15 and I'm 28, but that's OK.. I have some friends there I may stay with.. I you know, I've always talked with older people and it seems kinda strangeI'm able to talk with someone the same age as me.. But, you seem older than you are, I mean, the way you look at things make you seem as if you were much older than your real age.. That's a very positive thing because it means you are ready for life, so to speak.. Bye, and hope to hear from you soon..

Re:Blind Bike Trials Rider Video, please atleast read it if you can't see it.

Well it is a hard way of cycling, People that get into it don't stick with it long unless they have a good background in riding bikes. Most people want the instant gratification, which it doesn't give. I only ride on the weekends unless I get a friend to get out, which is not often. So like 1 to 2 times a week. I have been riding for 8 years but I was unable to ride for 2 due to doctors orders. So I guess realistically 6 years on the trials bike. I pretty much lived on a bike for the better part of my life to give some history. Cycling is pretty natural to me. Trials is huge in europe not so much in the US.

You know, this sport seems to be pretty hard.. It must take a good part of your day.. How often do you practice? Do you do it every day? Or you just do it once or twice a week? How long have you been doing it for? How was at first time? And how did you get to know it? Speak with you soon..

Re:Blind Bike Trials Rider Video, please atleast read it if you can't see it.

Dear friend, you are a very optimistic an positive person! Good luck for everything! I'm sure you will cope with your guitar lessons! You have a great deal of strength! I hope I'll find my way too. Thanks for your advice, they are very precious to me!! I hope to hear from you from time to time. You'll give me some positive tips on how to deal with life! Bye, and I wish you all the best!

So here isa link to a website that explains what kind of bike riding that I am doing in the video, for those of you who can't see. It explains it pretty well. Though the video is more of a free ride part vs. a defined course. If you have any questions about it feel free to ask.

Re:Blind Bike Trials Rider Video, please atleast read it if you can't see it.

I am not working right now. I am in the process of going through a program to get me ready for a job. I live in the USA in the state of Maryland. I too am 28 and I do not have any kids. I am married though. As far as fun goes I ride my bike and I also am in the process of learning how to play the Bass guitar, Though that is not going well. I pretty much lead a boring life when I am not on my bike.

As far as finding someone with the same interests as you, I know it is hard but if you look on the internet and try some local programs you may find someone that can help. I just used the internet and word of mouth to find people in similar situations as myself. I did find one person that lives in my area that does work that I used to do for years and that I enjoyed to do and that is what we have in common. The other person lives 3000 miles away and he too rides a bike solo and that is what we have in common. There are people out there you just have to find them, I know it is hard but it will give you something positive to do and when you find people that you can relate too it will be well worth it.

Re:Blind Bike Trials Rider Video, please atleast read it if you can't see it.

Thanks so much.. I'll try to find someone who really understands me, but it is nothing but easy.. By th way, what do you do in life? Do you have any kids? Where do you live? I live in Italy, and I'm 28.. Bye bye, hope to hear from you..

Re:Blind Bike Trials Rider Video, please atleast read it if you can't see it.

Wow it sounds like you like to do lots of things. Those things make you happy? If so then that is the first step. I personally went looking for people in my similar situation and kind of feed off of them, you know got idea's. I would suggest going that route. No one understands what people like you and I go through unless they are going or have gone through the same thing, I know that it is frustrating to deal with people on a day to day basis that keep saying I understand but you and I both know they have no idea. Just find someone that you can talk with and that shares your same interests. Trust me that will help.

Matt.

Dear friend, thanks so much for your reply.. What I like the most is reading, writing, going out for a walk, listening to music... I'd like to get a good job, as an employee.. I want to get a second online degree in Educational Scences. (I already have a degree in foreign languages.) I'd like to do many things, but I feel people don't care at all and I feel so alone with all of my problems.. I feel lost and with no one to give me some advice.. Bye, and take care..

Re:Blind Bike Trials Rider Video, please atleast read it if you can't see it.

So...what do you like to do? I mean what did or what do you enjoy, what makes you happy?

Riding my bike always made me happy and I knew that I just had to get back on it. So I did and I am once again happy with my life.

I don't really know what I can say to help but I will do what I can to help.

Re:Blind Bike Trials Rider Video, please atleast read it if you can't see it.

Thanks for the comforting words, I really do need someone to give me a hand.. Everythingseems to go wrong, life is hard. My life is a mess, everything I do seems to be the wrong choice. No one wants to give me a hand. I feel really depressed, sad, I feel down, down, down... I'm totally blind and I can't watch the video, but I thank you anyway for the nice word you wrote.. What can I do? How can I convince people to "open the door" and give me a hand. People always close the doors of their hearts and souls.. Why life is so miserable!
