Hi! I would be happy to help you find a judo club in your area. Judo is a great martial art for the blind and visually impaired. Please respond or email me at judoheidi@comcast.net

Re:Learning martial arts

Hi, I am not sure if anyone is watching this topic anymore. If so, I was curious if anyone knew of any organisation who teaches marshal arts for people who are blind here in Indiana. I been interested in learning marshal arts forever, but never knew where to go to find one that is specifically directed for people who have low vision. Thanks

Re:Learning martial arts

Hey,

I too am a college student learning martial arts.
I am learning the art of KungFu, more specificly baguazhang. (I don't believe I spelled it correctly)
I am a guide dog user and I am also losing what vision I have left. I have found that doing martial arts has helped with my balance problems, is making me become more aware of what my body is doing and I am more confident.
Oh, and I also am a girl!!!

This is cool, I'm glad you posted, it's nice to know that I'm not the only blind person on the planet learning a martial art.

Re:Learning martial arts

Hey man, I play guitar, write poetry/songs/stories, and practice martial arts. You should try the martial art Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. It requires little/no sight, one of the world champions is blind, I used to train with him... but he's a jerk. Basically you are trained not to punch or kick, but other very deadly techniques. Please feel free to e-mail me anyone. :)
