Seeking study / training opportunity for Teaching Music for the Blind

Our NGO Music Unites Jamaica Foundation has assisted the very talented visually impaired singer and music educator Symone Thomas here in Jamaica for several years. Ideally Symone would like to obtain a scholarship for a Masters Degree specialized in Music Education for the Blind. If this area of study is difficult to find, then it would be great, if Symone simply could get specified training in this area, while possibly working voluntary with children. Symone also plays the saxophone.

Re: Seeking study / training opportunity for Teaching Music for the Blind

I don't think that a program specificly for teaching music to the visually impaired exists, but there are a few other options that your friend could consider. There is music therapy, which involves the use of music to help relax or teach people with a variety of special needs. Your friend could also become a regular music teacher and simply teach at a school or center for the blind. Or, this person could give private lessons and mention that he would love to work with blind students. I hope that this helps.
