Expanding possibilities for people with vision loss

Almost blind in my left eye...maybe?

Hello everyone, I've had an odd vision problem for all my life, one no optometrist has given a detailed explanation to. I honestly don't know where else to turn for possible answers, but really what I want desperately is to find someone who understands my problem, maybe even relate to it. So far I only confuse people when I try explaining my issue. so, here's hoping I can explain it okay for you, haha.

first off though, my right eye is by far dominant. I only notice a slight peripheral difference when I cover the left. That's all the left does actually: serves as a left side peripheral, while the right does all the actual seeing.
But when I close my right eye, it's not blurry like people most commonly describe. In fact everything is rather sharp. The problem is, while I still see things, I also see black. This blackness things like reading impossible. Doing it now, I can see that there is text on the screen, but cannot make out for the life of me what it says. It is so frustrating because it seems to be floating between blind and normal. Oddly enough, colors are still as vibrant as when seen from my good eye. But at the same time are covered in a black darkness. The concept even confuses me. I'm 18 years old and have been searching for an answer for the past 4 years.
I was told I had a lazy eye when I was a child, and tried the whole eye patch treatment. This did nothing but frustrate me, I remember feeling completely restricted without my right eye. After a while we gave up, I grew older and was simply told I had a bad eye, to take care of my good one. This isn't enough for me, since so far I've yet to come across someone with my same problem. Everyone seems to have blurred vision or complete blindness. I am incredibly confused about this, and would love a clear explanation, even if only for closure. After all, 4 years of confusion can really get to you, lol : )

Thank you so much for taking the time to hear my little story ~

Whit

Re:Almost blind in my left eye...maybe?

Hi im 21 I was born 4 months premature and my retnas didn't have enough time to fully attach. Im legally blind I've always been made fun of because of it, I'm very insecure I'm embarassed to look people in the eye. I'm a shy person having a lazy eye just makes it worse no one else in my family has one and they say I'm miserable all the time. My eye doctor said it's getting worse I'm worried I'm going to go blind. My dad doesn't want me to get a surgery that might correct how the lazy eye looks (it turns towered my nose, I feel like it's always there and everyones always staring at it) I'm confused and upset I really want it to go away but I'm slowly accepting that it won't.

wow, that does sound exactly like me! I never get the chance to confuse doctors, because they're always quick to assume it's just plain blind, or extremely farsighted, lol. We should certainly chat about it sometime. : )

I know your issues i was born with crossed eyes and they did surgery.and not to long after I'm told that i went blind in my left eye,My old doctor didn't catch it.Which here's the twist my brain perfures my right so i use it for everything but when you cover my right my brain like switch's over but nothing is any easier in either eye.The condition confuses my doctors and i they said it wouldn't get better nor worse but its getting worse.
