Expanding possibilities for people with vision loss

Anyone having problems with cooking, especially cutting meat or vegetables?

Hi, I'm a student at CCS (College for creative studies, Detroit, Michgan). I post this topic because of our studio project to need your feedbacks. We are doing a project to support the visual impared people, especially in cooking food and reparing stuffs at house. So anybody have any suggestions or the recomendation for us to do in this project, please? These under things are our concernings. We need to know how can You cook or arrange the ingredents as well? For me, I am curious about how do you cut the meat Safety and easy? And I think about creating a small slicing machine (cutting machine) to help people more safety and can avoid less touching knife; also you just touch to know when it finishes; also you can have the different thickness of meat pieces you would like by set up the machine. So that is just my idea at first. For my partners, one guy will create a small table or board that let you guys can arrange the ingredents better such as memorable and touchable; the other 2 partners will create tools to support you repair things at home. So if you want to repair something in your house, anything, how do you solve the problems, or how difficulties they are, please leave us some comments. Your suggestions will be good background and very helpful for us to do this project. One more important things, this projects is sponsored by Black and Decker company. This company designs and produces many kinds of products such as the power tools, cooking stuffs and other tools. So this is a chance for us to do something useful for the legally blind people to make your life better and easier, still do your favourites. Thanks for your spending time.

It includes some videos (which are all captioned and audio described) that you may find interesting.

Check out Hadley School for the Blind for cooking lessons. Similarly, check out senior site for tips on safe cooking techniques. Lots of us have cooked for years and use knives safely to cut vegetables. There are many programs which instruct blind and newly blind folks in cooking techniques and much of this material is available on the internet. Organizations such as National Braille Press publish instructions sspecially tailored for blind people in braille. They have a web presence as does the Carroll Center, another place where blind folks can get cooking instructions. As for machines, small electric choppers are available in any small appliance store if folks want to use them. I personally just use a knife and safe chopping techniques.
