Born blind and eye patches

I currently do not have a computer, so please bear with my phone typing.
I was born with a cataract in my right eye. 27 years later my vision is next to nothing. Several BRIGHT colors, only obvious shapes, and almost pitch black (except when colors kind of cone through). The eye has also turned lazy over time.
One thing I have noticed is that, especially when tired, if I am trying to focus or read my vision likes to try to cross over a bit. Like my eyes are trying to focus together or something. I broke down and bought me an eye patch. It helps so much in general I wear it around the house.
I am posting this because I want to know that I am not alone in some way. Are there others out there that can relate to even a bit of this story?? It would make me feel so much better.

Hi Everyone

I would like to pay my respect to those fighting with these disabilities and surpassing them. Serving the visually impaired since 4 years it feels great to help them get adapted to the advanced travel aids. Live Braille Mini is a fully wearable device, the lightest and most precise adaptive equipment.

Re: Born blind and eye patches

I can relate to wearing a patch. I recently went blind in my right eye due to a central retinal artery occlusion. Mostly all I see is a dark grey mass except for a slight sliver of light visible at the very outside of that eye. This causes all kinds of distortions and color patterns when I don't wear a patch. This is true especially when I'm outside or in bright lights. The patch does help, but what seems to help even more is to actually close the bad eye lid. I think there is some kind of connection between the eye lid and the brain in which the eye ceases to try to "see" once the lid closes. For me, when I close the eye lid, I no longer see the colors or even the dark grey mass, just clear vision from my good eye.
