A sighted guide is when a blind person has a sighted person guide them instead of a cane or guide dog.

a sighted guide? i am currious to know more about this - i have never heard of a sighted guide

Re:can a blind person choose if they want to use...

Of course they can choose! I myself often use a cane when I'm somewhere unfamiliar. Also, sometimes (depending on where I am) I use a friend of mine as a sighted guide. The only downside with having a friend as a sighted guide is that they are very casual with where they go and what they do, so sometimes they think it's funny to play pranks on you. The upside to this is that your friends know you well and they can help you sometimes more than a sighted guide you don't know.

Another problem using a sighted is guide is if the sigted guide is not the same sex for restroom use. I am my husbands sighted guide and multiple stall restroom use is the most difficult. My husband would wander around in the restroom trying to find a stall. Now since he has no vision and a poor sense of balance and now has been using a wheelchair and needs assistance it hard to go anywhere where there is more than one stall in the restroom.

what if they don't use a cane or guide dog??? What if they don't like to use a cane or guide dog?? how do they get around???

If and when a person who is blind has a sighted guide available, he/she is can choose to use the sighted guide rather than a cane or guide dog. The drawback of sighted guides is that they are not always available.
