Re:can someone who is legally blind and still see?

I, myself, am legally blind, and I can see, just not with the help of contacts or glasses. It's illegal for someone who is legally blind to drive without contacts or glasses (if prescribed). I forgot to put in my contacts one night and my friend and I were driving around town (I wasn't the driver) and all I could make out were splotches of light: I couldn't see the shapes of buildings or the shapes of cars, just the lights.

When you're legally blind, it's not like you're completely bilnd and can't see anything at all, it's just that everything is extremely blurred and colours often tend to mix with one another, making it hard to tell one thing from another. My condition is so bad that I can hardly read something at my own arm's length and I must be within about 6 inches of a digital clock or a book to read them without my contatcs.

Hope this helps.

Re:can someone who is legally blind and still see?

You said you might be legally blind WITHOUT glasses. This is impossible, because in order to be legally blind, your vision needs to be worse than 20/200 WITH your glasses on. So as long as you see better than 20/200 with your glasses on, you are not legally blind, and you should be able to drive as long as you keep them on

I'm legally blind and I can still see. I had a detached retina in one of my eyes, so I can't see out of it, and I am legally blind in the other. I just received my driver's licence (yes!) so I can drive, just not at night. I have a pretty normal life, I can do pretty much anything anyone else does. Sometimes, though, I have to stand close to something so I can see it better (such as the chalkboard in school), but that hasn't been a major problem so far. :)

I am legally blind and have central vision, I stopped driving 3 years ago. I was told I had rp in my early 30's and am now 64, I can read large print books and still watch tv. My side vision is pretty bad, but gratful for what I can see,I live with my husband, who by the way, is great with me, helping as much as he can, I have 3 grown boys (men). I just had to get the right attitude which really does help , Good luck with you. My name is Alice

Yes, I am legally blind and I do drive. I also just enrolled in art school and working towards getting my degree in fine arts. I am completely blind in one eye and the other eye legally blind but can see well enough with my driving glasses, I pass the vision test (honestly think they felt sorry for me)

I live a full complete life with husband and four kids. I just started my travel business and hopefully that works out but my true passion is painting anf photography.

I will admit, I can not drive at night only during the day, when the sun starts to come down I have to rush home fast. LOL.

I am legally blind and still see, just not as good as other people. I use low vision devices to help me see. My vision may get better, or worse. I've learned to adjust to it though.

Re:can someone who is legally blind and still see?

you can be legally blind and drive, so I say yes. I went to a low visoin Doctor and he tried to get my good eye to 20/70 with aides. didn't happen but if it would have I could have been fitted with "driving glasses'. I can't see enough to drive but with visual aides I can see the computer screen. I am blind in one eye and legally blind in the other. Lori B
