Designing Computer Interface For the Blind For College Project. What things would you suggest it has?

I am currently a student at Virginia Tech. For my Engineering Design Project my group is to come up with a solution to a problem that aids those with a form of disability. We decided that we would like to design a way for those who cannot see to type with more ease then the current solutions.

Any suggestions that you would like to have implemented in the design or even just problems with current solutions would be greatly appreciated.

You say you already know what you are designing, a better way of inputting than typing. However, please note many blind people type well. For those who do not, due to motor impairment perhaps, Dragon Naturally Speaking does work well with screen readers. It allows a person to speak and have his or her words translated into a document form. It is inexpensive and works on Windows and IOS platforms. Speaking of IOS, you may be interested in the apps which have been developed for use by blind folks. Perhaps they will inspire you to create a useful one of your own.
