Expanding possibilities for people with vision loss

How do you cope with the pain of being blind?

Hi everyone,
Im new to the site. I havenhad retinal detachments since the age of 15. My first few surgeries were successful followed up with cataract surgery as well as laser to clear film on lense. Last year, I had a tragic accident where I was brutually attacked causing my retina to tear in several spots, I underwent another surgery in hopes my vision would return. By fall lastbyear, I was told I was blind in my right eye. Im starting to cope with the vision loss but I experience so much pain and im not sure why. I was wondering if anyone else has this issue. Its like my eyelids are swollen, I get a sharp pain through my eye and extreme sensitivity to sun/light exposure. Im looking for answers because I feel as though my doctors arent explaining it enough to me.

Re: How do you cope with the pain of being blind?

I have VERY similar issues. I became blind in my left eye after taking a bad blow from an airbad to my main nerve. Ive developed glaucoma and have had multiple hemorrhages... the pain is CONSTANT and gets worse at times feeling like a hot needle is being poked through different parts of my eye... Ive been to multiple specialists and 3 different ophthalmologists...no luck yet. Im on 4 seperate eye drips to control the pressure but you arent alone i promise. I know i have days where i feel like no one around me understands...if i happen to find answers ill be sure to inform you...good luck

Feel sad for you. But I have no idea of it

Better seek suggestion from a second ophthalmologist. God bless!

I am sorry but I think that you should go to centers for blinds or people with low vision. You can learn how to use computer with NVDA

I'm so sorry to hear this.

Have you received a second opinion from another ophthalmologist? I would definitely recommend this. Eye pain isn't normal.

How are you feeling at this point, both emotionally and physically? Emotionally speaking, have you been to any support group for persons with vision loss? I think this would be very helpful.
