making friends

Hi Everyone,
I would like to make friends. I'm in my 20s now. I like to hang out, listen to country music, and chat away with awesome people! Write back if you want to chat away!

Re: making friends

Hey Abs.
Congrats on the game, I remember when the MN team use to be the north Stars.
It's so exciting when goals are scored that way.
I was at a Flyers game once and we beat Toronto in overtime scoring the winning goal with .6 seconds left on the clock.
I thought the roof was going to fly off the areana.
to make it even cooler, the guy who scored it got a hat-trick with the same goal.
Danny Brierre I think, probably screwing up the spelling of his name though.
Outside of work I've just been getting ready for Christmas and hanging with my fiance and son. this weekend we volunteered helping to put giftbags together and distribute to the folks who signed up for them at our church; pretty humbling experience really. they get gifts for their families, wrapping paper, food, and a small gift card for other purchases.
I think we were able to help 23 families this year.
I also set up my drums in my office so I can play more often; great stress-reliever. LOL
I hope you are having a good week and that work is going well for you.
I'm looking forward to my vacation next week. I have off for the remainder of the year starting Dec 21. Can't wait!
take care

Re: making friends

Hey Mike,
My thanksgiving was great! We had about 15 people here at the house. I ate a lot, but I think that's a rule when it comes to thanksgiving. Anyway, my hockey team is the wild. We won last night with a score of 4 to two. We got the last goal with 5.1 seconds to play! Sorry, I'm kinda a big hockey fan. Living with a canadian, you learn to love hockey. What else have you been up too except work being insane?
Chat with you soon,
Cws

Re: making friends

Hey CWS.
No worries about the randomness, if that's a word? Stream of consciousness is a window into the mind. LOL I think I read that in an intro psych course when I was in college.
Our golden retriever would be good for anyone with a fear of dogs. She's little more than a decoration that eats, sleeps, and goes for walks.
I like hockey, not as much as football, but it'll do during the off-season. I'm a Flyers fan, so lately hockey has been hard to watch. ugh. Who is your team?
Sounds like your friend may have had RB as well, I too, have two prosthetic eyes.
Gotta get back to work and close this insane week out.
In addition to my normal role, I'm testing a Windows10 machine with Jaws 18 on our network. It is interesting; also frustrating how incredibly slow Outlook is with the new operating system.
I hope you are doing well, and that you and your family had a great Thanksgiving

Re: making friends

Hey there Mike,
I know who needs a lot of memory on their phone! My sister! She's sighted, so is the rest of my family, and she fills her phone with so much photos half of the memory is just of photos. My family and I don't do much together except watch hockey together and just hang out at Sunday dinner. I'm also a triplet, and both of my sisters are sighted. Speaking of dogs, we got a new dog a month ago. I'm not a huge fan of dogs do to a bad incounter I had when I was young. That's good that your son still has his vision. One of my blind friends had cancer that caused her blindness and now has glass eyes. Btw, sorry if I'm being random.
If I don't talk to you before Thursday have a great thanksgiving!
CWS

Re: making friends

hey there CWS!
boy if I would've known that I could've given you my 5S, I traded it in. I don't care for bells and whistles either, but the sound processor in the new phone is amazing, and they're very fast. Plus it has 64GB of memory, that's a lot of music! You can buy them in a 256GB version as well, but who really needs hat much storage on a dang phone.
My son and I like to work out together, walk our pet Golden (her name's Lizzy) and he's studying to be an electrician. So we've done some repairs around the house together and he's very very good. he graduates high school this year, so he's excited and nervous about that.
We also like watching football and cooking together. He's a good kid. He had the same cancer I did when he was born but thankfully kept his vision.
Hope you have a great weekend, and if I don't chat at you until after, have a great Thanksgiving holiday. can't believe it's almost here.

Re: making friends

Hi Mike,
I'm doing well. Work is going well. It's fine that it took so long for you to reply. I'm used to waiting for replies from friends. I think I'm going to get an earlier vertion of the iphone. I don't need all the bells and whisles. All I need is a good phone that has a screen reader in it that you don't have to pay for. That's great that you got to see your son. What did you both do together when you saw each other?

Re: making friends

Good morning Abby;
Sorry it's taken me so long to reply. Things just seem to keep getting busier in the work/life balance.
There's not a whole lot of excitement in spite of how busy it's been. I did get to spend some time with my son this weekend so that was the best part of all of it. In the last we we've gotten new phones, I got the IPhone 8 and he the 8+. They are very fast, and the sound has been greatly improved.
The one thing I don't like is when using dictation the phone keeps talking after you double-tap to start dictation, and the speech to text translater is picking up the instructions of the phone in the message. So you've got to sit there an wait for it to get done babbling until you double-tap. Other than that it's a good device.
Hope you are well and work and everything else is going good for you.
M

Re: making friends

Hi Mike,
My holiday was good. I just stayed home and read a book. My week has been going good so far. I work tomorrow. Besides that, I don't have any other plans for the weekend.
Last weekend I went to a Harry Potter thing with my family which was really fun. You could take fake classes and buy merchandise. I got a new keychain for my cane. Other then that, I haven't been doing much.
Hope things are going well for you,
Abby

Re: making friends

Hi Abby;

Been another fun-filled week at work; yes, using the term very lightly.
we've been working 4:30am to 6 most nights. so glad I can at least eat at my desk.
ND won again this weekend, very happy! We also get to hand out Halloween treats tonight, not sure if I'll dress up but our dog will be wearing a lion's mane. She's a golden retriever we rescued several years ago and she wears it well since she's very large for a golden.
Do you have any plans for Halloween?
Hope you're having a goodweek and had a great weekend.
M

Re: making friends

Hey there!
That's cool about the discussion. When I was 14, I did a speech at an national federation for the blind convention for the national organization of parents of blind children. I told my story about how I became blind and some other stuff I can't remember right now. It was pretty fun. I excuse the pun. I make jokes about my blindness all the time and sighted people become speechless because they don't know what to say even when I do it a lot.
My day was good. I just worked all day.

Re: making friends

hey there.
I love it! nothing like a bent cane to show guts and mobility.
Long ago when I was at the university of Pittsburgh i'd break at least one a month. I walk way too fast, it's why I don't use a dog. plus, you can't fold them up and throw them under your chair. LOL
Our panel discussion went well, I only had a chance to cover about 70% of what I wanted to given the time restraint, but I also got to hear people's experience with being a parent of a child with Autism, and another lady who is a fighter of Multiple Sclerosis. It was eye-opening to say the least if you'll excuse the pun.
Not much else going on, had a 12pm meeting moved to 1, so figured i'd jump on here and see what'sup.
Hope you're having a good day.
M

Re: making friends

good morning!

I recognize the first guy's name, but not the second one; will have to youtube him.
I'm doing well, had a relaxing weekend, got some pumpkins to complete the Halloween decorations, and Notredame won again. All in all, a good weekend.
Today I have to travel to a different worksite and participate in a panel discussion about being blind. I have to tell my story in 10 minutes or less, and then answer a bunch of questions; well hopefully. Alittle nervous but excited nonetheless.
How was your weekend? Hope you have a good day and rest of your week.
M

Re: making friends

Hey Mike,
I'm not sure about my favorite country groups. I have so many! I went to a jason aldein concert when I turned 18. He's one of my favorites and so is cris young. How are you? What have you been up to besides work? Thanks for taking time out of your day to chat with me. I appreciate it.

Re: making friends

Hi Abby, happy Friday.
Yes, I meant your favorite country groups. I don't know a whole lot of Christian music outside of what we sing at Mass every week.
I'm a born and still practicing Roman Catholic.
yes work is still crazy, working 13 hours a day this week as we have several chronic issues we're trying to resolve.
BTW, I understand and appreciate you're not wanting to email.
A word of advice to you and everyone else who reads this, that risk is really limited to getting spammed and/or a bunch of emails from someone you don't want to talk to.
The IP addresses we all use to communicate viathe internet is what's traceable as I learned in my cyber-security classes. That software is expensive though, and used most by corporate marketing divisions, and not as readily accessible as TV would like folks to believe.
take care.

Re: making friends

Hey Mike,
I'm glad you still want to chat. You're probably right I wouldn't like your drumming. IWhen you say favorites, do you mean favorites in country? Sounds like work is crazy as usual. I'll chat with you soon,
Abby

Re: making friends

Hi Abby
Sorry it's been a while. Yes, I'd still like to chat. Work continues to be increasingly busy; an epidemic in the corporate world I think. Everyone doing more with less, which really means companies make more money driving the less (in this case people) into unsustainable work loads.
I'm afraid you wouldn't like my drumming then. LOL I play and like metal, although I do play some Blues and classic rock sometimes. I don't typically get into country music though I do like some of Brad Paisly's (sorry if I spelled that wrong) and/or Rodney Atkins's music.
Do you have any favorites? What kind of work do you do?
Hope you are doing well.
M

Re: making friends

Hello mMike,
You still want to chat? It's been a few days and I was wondering if you still wanted to chat since you haven't replied yet.

Re: making friends

Nice about the weight lifting and playing the drums. What do you play on your drums? I went to high school with a few high schoolers who had their own band. I don't have very many interests. I just like to hang out, read books, chat with friends, run, and bol. I do special olympics and have been doing so for about the last five years. I only like country music and christian music. I can't stand heavy medal! That music gives me a headake especially if it's cranked. At my work, we hangout before our shifts start, and someone has music blasting and it's usually medal. I use jaws 8.0. My computer is so old that a higher up version won't work with it.

Re: making friends

Hey Abby!
No worries on the timing of your response. Honestly, it's just nice to see someone on these boards again. I check back every couple of days myself, so may not always reply immediately.
Work has been very hectic this week, and recent weeks really. Takes up most of my time. For fun, I lift weights and hang with my fiance. We like going to a local sports bar and watching football, and hang with friends. I play drums occasionally, and we like to travel. I'm training for a powerlifting competition in March where I hope to break a couple records for my age group and weight class.
I also like discovering new music which is getting harder in my favorite genre metal... seems a dying art.
How about you? Hobbies, how do you spend your free time? Any music you like besides country?
which screenreader do you use. I have JAWS, 15 for home, and 17 at work. both seem pretty stable.
M

Re: making friends

Hi Mike,
How are you?
I got my t-shirt yesterday! It's great! What are you up to?
Hope things are going well.

Re: making friends

Sorry it took me a while to reply. I'm not online every minute of everyday like some people I know. I'd rather not talk about my blindness. Sorry if this comes o
Sorry if this comes out weird, my screen reader is being stupid. So what do you like to do for fun?

Re: making friends

that is awesome.

May I ask what is the cause of your blindness? I had retinoblastoma as a kid
That's cool you have a blind co-worker, not many blind folks where I work. I believe it is somewhere around 20 in a company of 225K.
But, we're trying to change that.

Re: making friends

Thanks Mike. That's what everyone calls me. My uncle came up with it. I have a friend at work who is also blind. We're known as the chicks with the sticks. Her sister is making t-shirts with chicks with the sticks written on them.

Re: making friends

Hi Abby;
I'm an old guy named Mike at 47, but always looking for new friends of any generation.
Nice screen name btw.
