for the Blind

Expanding possibilities for people with vision loss

Might anyone help me with my novel? I would like to make it as real as possible

Well real about how some one who is blind sees the world and moves through it. (this is in a Super Hero world, no this person is not a hero, though he is a pyro)
His name's Gabe, and here's what I have on him so far:
He writes music for a living, and is rising up the charts but has yet to put on a live concert.
Married and has two small daughters (elementary school)
I really want to say he's in the Rodeo, like bull riding, as that's a hold for as long as you can, not aim this lasso at that there running critter sport, but if it's a big would never happen okay.
he dose have a guide dog named Raphael that helps him when he goes outside or to new places but not much around the house, as I figured he'd have the lay out memorized and not need much help. (he also cooks)

Is this all good and up to what he might actually do if he was alive?
I do have questions too,
What are TV and Movies like fore him?
Is there anything his family would do differently than if he could see?
Can he write with a pen, as he has been blind since birth?
What's walking through or being in crowds like?
How much guiding would Raphael do in a new building?
ext.
If you can help me that's be amazing, I really want to get this as close as I can as a lot of this book will be from his point of view. If you would like to keep in contact that'd be even better.
Thank you

okayeee......

sure might be out there but the riders definitely need a lot of extra help. You definitely need a sighty there.

What are TV and Movies like fore him?
Most blind folks just listen to it. there's audio descriptions on some which I and some other think really rather annoying. Sometimes we have people describe visual scenes for us and if the movie is way too visual and we can't tell by little sound cues or voices then we just don't watch it. As a friend says, movies aren't for the blind.
Is there anything his family would do differently than if he could see?
depends....... is his family the type to shelter and try to do everything for him or are they up to treating them like a normal kid? you decide, the only difference would just be the sheltering.

What's it's like for you? he'd just have to have his dog guide him through or feel people with his cane and if it's a bunch of idiotic kids he might have to shout at a few of them to get out of his way.
How much guiding would Raphael do in a new building?
A lot! he's not familiar with a layout, so he'd have to guide him around obstacles but he'd need to get sighted help in order to find what he needs if he doesn't know the building well.

are you having him use a screenreader on his computer? and be literate in braille? and there's braille music though most of the blind population who's good at music hate it. Also with the writing thing he'd need line paper guides and signature guides. Also, sensitive hearing most of us are able to hear footsteps. there's organizations like Nfb and ACB if that's a concern to you he can join together with blind folks to deal with life. the main topic I see amongst the average blind person is sex, drugs, who will they go out with next, partiing, and so on. there's a lot of Drama between most blind folks. and the average blind person can get defensive. We like voice clips too.....

can't think of anything else at the moment. any more questions?

Full out can't see anything.
-
the fact that there are real blind bull riders out there has just made my day.
-
I thought there was something, I saw it on a show once for the movies I just didn't know what it was. I shall now go look this up.

And yes this helps a lot,
Thank you so much

As a fellow novelist I'll try my best to be of service
Is he a partial or does he see light or is he complete?
I think you have a pretty good idea about him and I'd think he could do stuff like bull riding in reality considering I know of some blind bull riders

As for TV and movies he probably has access to DVS(audio descriptions) which is a service that describes the scene clothing whatever.

---
What I understand he would be able to with writing guides I can't say for sure consideringI'm a partial just getting started and I've known print forever
--
With me crowds can be nerve racking but it's different for each person with Raphael it would probably be easy considering he would guide him out of it
--
Quite a bit I imagine in a new unfamiliar place but Gabe probably would have an idea of the layout
And most guide dogs are trained to find exits elevators etc
--
Hope this helps
