Need opinions and ideas

Hey everyone! My name is Elizabeth, I am 15 and am sighted; I am currently writing a book where the main character is blinded through an accident and was wondering if I could get some information from those who have either been blind all their life, is partially blind, has recently become blind, or any variation of these.

So basically my questions are these:(im aware that this differs, but just give an example)

What are the main things to overcome in the home after suddenly becoming blind?

What are things a blind person enjoys doing around the house and outside of the house?

After suddenly becoming blind would you reject or accept help; would you try and tough it out by yourself or ask for asistance?

What kind of things can you do by yourself and what sort of things do you need help with?

I've searched thouroughly through out this site and am reaserching medical websites and such also, i just thought that opinions and ideas from actually people would be better than what any reaserch or document could provide!

Any and all information would be highly appreciated, email me at vintage_chic1992@yahoo.com

My hardest thing is trying to be indepent. I now have to ask for rides. And don't even get me started about the TV! Try closing your eyes and follow the movie!! People treat you differently too. Even the ones who were your good friends. Wearing dark glasses when out in public can be interesting. People think your drunk or stoned. LOL I also love people waving at me. My husband whispers in my ear who they are and I wave back and say hi. They think a miracle has happen and I can see again! Good luck with your project and put a since of humor in it!

THERE ARE SO MANY THINGS TO OVERCOME. I WILL TRY TO TOUCH ON SOME OF THE HARDEST ONES. KEEP IN MIND THER ARE OTHERS. MOST EVERYTHING WE DO OR WHERE WE GO HAVE DIFFICULTIES IN MANY WAYS. AT HOME THE FIRST THING A BLIND PERSON HAS TO DO IS PLACE EVERYTHING IN A PLACE WHERE THEY KNOW ITS AT. THEN IF PEOPLE COME ONER THEY MUST RETURN IT BACK TO THE PLACE IT CAME FROM, IT CAN BE DANGEROUS IF ITS NOT SUCH AS KNIVES. MEDS, ETC.
WE GO TO BLIND SCHOOL TO LEARN HOW TO COOK AND MEASURE SEASONINGS OR WHATEVER TO BAKE OR COOK. WE USE SPECIAL MEASURING CUPS AND SPOONS SO WE CAN FEEL THE DIFFERENT LEVELS,. WE HAVE A THING WE PLACE ON GLASSES WHICH BUZZ WHEN WE ARE CLOSE TO THE TOP.
WE LEARN IN SCHOOL HOW TO CLEAN SYSTEMATICALL SO WE DONT MISS THINGS. DOING LAUNDRY IS A CHORE FOR US BECAUSE WE NEED TO TAKE OUR PAIRS OF SOCKS AND PLACE THEM IN A RING THAT HOLDS THEM TOGETHER SO WE CAN MATCH THEM AFTER.
SHOPPING IS HARD BECAUSE WE HAVE TO HAVE SOMEONE COME WITH US AND WHEN WE GET CANS WE HAVE TO LABEL THEM WITH OUR LABELMAKER,
TO BE HONEST WITH YOU EVERYTHING YOU TAKE FOR GRANTED WE HAVE TO BE VERY ORGANIZED AND EVERYTHING HAS TO BE LABELED OR MARKED,.

I LIKE TO GARDEN. TAKE WALKS TO LISTEN TO THE DIFFERENT SOUNDS AND SMELL THE DIFFERENT SMELLS. I LOVE THE OCEAN AND LAKES

AT FIRST YOU ARE SO ANGRY YOU DONT WANT ANY HELP OR TO TALK ABOUT IT. AFTER THE HUNDRETH TIME YOU FALL SOWN OR HIT YOUR LEG ON SOMETHING YOU SAY OK TIME TO GO TO CLASS AND LEARN

What kind of things can you do by yourself
IF IT IS SET UP WITH OUR HELPS WE CAN DO ANYTHING.
I COOK, GARDEN. WALK, HOUSECLEAN. SHOP. TAKE CARE OF MY HUSBAND. BABY SIT MY GRANDDAUGHTER. READ TYPE AND MORE
