Optic Nerve Problem

Hi...I had an injury in my right eye in the childhood because of that my retina got displaced. And at that time I had an eye surgery. But after few years of surgery I lost vision completely in the right eye. Couple of months back I visited a Retinal ophthalmologist and he said that my right eye's optic nerve is dead now and nothing can be done.
I just wanted to have a second opinion. But I am not sure to which kind of ophthalmologist to consult with. I am thinking of consulting a Neuro ophthalmologist. Is this a good idea?

Please Help.

Re:Optic Nerve Problem

Im completely blind in my right eye as welll and the optic nerve is dead also. I had eye surgery and need another one
I have been to numerous opthomologist I also have epilepsy
but if I were you to ease your mind I would go to an opthomology
clinic at a large medical center as they are use to many differant kinds of things. I highly suggest the Kellogg eye institute of Michigan in Ann Arbor Michigan
I go there and the care is best I have ever
experienced they are even better then my regular opthomologist who I have great respect for
The Wills eye institute in Philidelphia is rated one of best also
I have not gone there
But I do know my right eye is not fixable
I think you need some peace of mind to know if yours is fixable
or what I understand your concerns
Best of luck to you

Re:Optic Nerve Problem

My 13 year old son has a under developed optic nerve. He is blind in his right eye. There is nothing actually wrong with the eye it's self. I am curious as to if there is a doctor that is able to do surgery to help him see again and if so who and where? I was thinking of low dose HG and right now I am giving him B12 and folic acid.

Re:Optic Nerve Problem

as far as I know, te optic nerve cannot be replaced due to the fact that it is too risky because it is attached directly to the brain. If thedoctors accidently nick the brain, yo will have brain damage. You might want to check into stem cell treatment.

Re:Optic Nerve Problem

I am donating money to the research of this disease (condition) my youngest sister has some type of it and she has had it from birth, from my research that i have uncovered scientists in china are making big strides in this field with mice and in some cases the mice were able to see in as little as four days after whatever it is they are doing to them, keep looking and never give up because the cure is right around the corner. if you would like to see my site where i am gathering donations go to http://aftermathaffiliates01.yolasite.com and look under the Disabled soldiers tab

Re:Optic Nerve Problem

HI There,
sorry for your vision loss. I have been trying to research optic nerve damage myself as my mother lost her vision in left eye a few months ago and was told same as you regarding the optic nerve. Just this week - same thing with her good eye. Now she has 2 eyes that are impaired. I cannot believe that I have never heard of this before given so many people supposedly have it. Why is there nothing being done to cure this. I personally feel her loss was due to a high blood pressure med that dropped her blood pressure too low at night . This can cause this damage. Have you found any more info - I am so upset for my mother and feel helpless. I wish you the best and I will pray for all those who are suffering.
