Please help me - I'm not sure my baby can see anything

I have a Son born 5 weeks early, who is now 7 wks old (adjusted age of 2 wks) and he doesn't look at anything or track anything. He may look a me for a brief moment, but there doesn't seem to be any interest. My first Son was looking right at me from his birth at 37 wks. I'm scared he can't see! His eyes move and he seems to be light sensitive, but he doesn't look at anything at all for more than a second or so.
He has an appt on Aug 24th with ped opth. Anyone have any good info? We're very concerned. Thank you!

I am a pediatric physical therapist and work with many premi's. As your child is really just 2 weeks adjusted we only look for a little focusing and some basic tracking with just eyes only and just a small amount. I would not stress about it at this time and good luck when you see the opthamologist.

I work in an ophthalmology practice. It is never too early to have an eye exam if you suspect something is wrong with your childs vision. Have your pediatric doctor recommend a pediatric ophthalmologist in your area. There are doctors that specialize in examining the eyes of infants and children. Tests to measure your childs vision can be done as well as examining the general health of the eye. Just relay what you have noticed and provide a good family history of medical and eye problems to the doctor.

Your message sounds exactly the same as a baby in my infant childcare class. I am concerned, but don't know how concerned to be. I'm hoping it's a matter of maturity. I don't want to make a deal of it if it is. Please if you are comfortable sharing your doctor visit experience I would so appreciate it. Thank you!

Don't worry too much, maybe it's just a little problem which can be sorted out. However, it's good to take him to a good sdoctor because, you never know; and these things are very delicate to deal with. You know, I'm blind , and my mother told me that it had happened the same thng to her; she said that I never looked at her straight in her eyes!
