Product design student curious about the blind perspective

My name is Stephen Stum, I am an industrial design student at the University of Washington. After finding that few designers design products with the blind in mind I would like to explore what products might be like if they were. I am hoping to find out what obstacles a blind person might come across on a daily basis in hopes I might develop a new product that might make life a little easier. Ranging anywhere from cooking and cleaning to walking to the bus. I hope to find a solution that is affordable and easy to use.

any recomendations or thoughts would be appreciated

Re:Product design student curious about the blind perspective

If you go to, you will find great long lists of Assistive Technology (AT) products nd a list of reviews. You MIGHT find in the reviews some that need improving. Its a long shot, but it will open your eyes as to waht has been done.
