Re:So happy to find all of you!!

I have had active Ocular Histoplasmosis since Nov 2007. I was diagnosed 15 yrs earlier but not active. In Nov 2007 they did Laser in my right when they found the lesion. I can see a little thru a pin hole in my left and getting shots of Avastin in my right now monthly for the last 6 months. It's improved my right eye to 20/30 with glasses. My old glasses were 550 strength to read now 250 in the right which is a big improvement. I go back on the 16th of April for shots in both. He is trying to improve my vision in my left to help me drive. I highly recommend the Avastin shots. When he first started giving me the shots he was hesitant because most insurance companies won't pay. It is costing me about $600 month for degotiated fee with the insurance. I wish there was a RS in the Dallas area that gave a discount cost for the treatments. They do work. If you have Ocular Histoplasmosis and you have a RS that won't give you the shots you all need to find one. Stress is a big factor but life itself is stressful. So don't give up hope. I wish you all the best of luck and don't give up. I am going to stay positive and keep trying. Our sight is very important.

Re:So happy to find all of you!!

Hello everyone. I'm an Ocular Histoplasmosis patient with a fairly successful story so far. I attribute much of the successful retention of my vision to my retinal surgeon. He has started a blog recently and encourage all of you to visit the site and sign up for updates. Each posting is fairly brief but informative and they come every few days. Be sure to look back at previous posts becasue a lot of good topics have already been covered.

Note that the site states that it is for patents of Macular Degeneration and Diabetic Retinopathy. As many of you already know, those of us with Ocular Histoplasmosis can learn from published information on these other diseases as they have similar results and treatments.

You can find his site at:

I honestly believe that knowledge is power. Arm yourself with as much credible information as you can to help navigate the future of your vision. Best of luck to all of you!

Re:So happy to find all of you!!

Hello. I have lived in Nebraska for the past 16 years. Prior that I lived in Southeast Minnesota (Mississippi River Valley Area). I have lived in the country most of my life, around chickens and geese and other farm animals. The thing is, I could have picked up Histo 2 years ago or 20. I also have elevated levels of Toxoplasmosis. Hope that helps.

Re:So happy to find all of you!!

Hi Colleen. I am interested in knowing where anyone living with Histoplasmosis were raised and/or born. My doctor says the only people known to have it are from Ohio and/or the Mississippi Valley areas.
