Expanding possibilities for people with vision loss

vision through my son's eyes

When talking to my 14 year old son the other day I asked him to close his right eye and describe what he sees when he looks at me. (vision in his left eye is 20/400 and he see's no color out of that eye. his right eye is still 20/40 but the colors are starting to fade which is how his vision loss in his left eye started, and we still have no diagnoses) He told me" better yet mom, I will show you" He took a picture of me with his cell phone and went through photo editing and set it to sketch. Which in return made the picture completely white, with a fine black line out lining parts of my face. I could hardly recognize my self in the picture. I felt sick to my stomach, I knew his vision was bad but this really hit home. He still sees "fine" when using both eyes. He will be 16 in 1 year and 2 months and is very excited about getting his drivers license, I dont think with his vision he will be able to and I dont have the heart to tell him. he already has so many little things stacked against him, he has Asperger's (a mild form of Autism) there for he has no friends, and he has hearing problems (he had hearing aids at one point but the Dr's recommended him not use them because he was right on the border line) I am looking for any one who has experienced similar visual problems.
