Re:Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI)

check with your blind school in your area and see if they have mentors. They can do a CVI evaluation on your child to tell if he has CVI. Also some of the signs are they don't focus on objects or gaze at lights...hopefully this helps:)

Re:Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI)

Where do I go to see if my son (3 years old) has CVI?
He has seen a Neurologist, had an MRI, seen 2 developmental optometrist and an opthalmologist.
The opthalmologist wants him to see another neurologist.
I don't know where else to go or if it is the right thing to take him to another neurologist.

Re:Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI)

Hi every one. I am a mother of a 2 year old little girl who was diagnosed with CVI when she was about four months old. I was terrified and did not know what to do. Now that I have lived with it, it does not seem that bad to handel. She started insights and they are very helpful with her. Insights is a group that I think every state has under another name. They help kids that have visual problems. They work with the blind schools of the state. Look up your local blind school. There is one in each state. She was the worst case they had ever seen when they came to her. Now it looks as if she can see as well as we do. I dont dought that she is missng some things here and there but she is doing great. CVI is not something they can grow out of . The only thing one can do is teach there child of how to use there vision. It hard to hear about it at first but when you realize what you got to do its not that bad and it comes natural to you.

Re:Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI)

You may want to visit AFB's Bookstore which may have books of interest that touch upon cortical visual impairment.

"Early Focus: Working with Young Children Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired and Their Families" may be a book of interest. For more information on this book, go to:

http://www.afb.org/store/product.asp?sku=0%2D89128...

In the very near future AFB Press will be publishing a book on cortical visual impairment, so be sure to return to the Bookstore and check out the New and Featured Books.

You may also want to check out the Blind Babies Foundation (BBF) web site at:

Hope this is helpful.
