EYE SURGERY FOR CHLDREN BORN WITH CATARACTS

My daughter was born in 2004 with a cataract in one eye. She had surgery and now wears glasses with a bi-focal and a contact lense. The doctor has said that she is ok to have a plastic lense put in her eye. I would like to hear from other parents who put the lense in the eye to get rid of the contact lense. Should i wait? She patches 4 hours a day, her visison is getting better by the doctor visit. But every time i clean her lense, i feel like i am risking her health. I hate contact lenses.

YOUR THOUGHTS PLEASE -

Re:EYE SURGERY FOR CHLDREN BORN WITH CATARACTS

Hi I have a 4 year old son with genetic congenital cataracts (inherited from me) who had the intaocular lens implant sugery in both eyes at 5 1/2 months and 6 months of age and it has helped him greatly in the left eye the the doctor believes that when he reaches his teens he will see 20/20 on his own or with minimal help from glasses. His right eye is copmplicated by secondary glaucoma and he has an ocular shunt in place to help with the pressure. The sooner you get the surgery done the sooner her brain can adjust to visual input. That is why I went ahead with the implants at such a young age as I also have congenital cataracts and I didn't get my implants until my twenties and thirties and it has only reduced the need for stronger glasses. I hope this information will help you.
