Question about pregnancy and diabetes

I am not pregnant and don't plan to be anytime soon but I would like to plan ahead for the future. This year i was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 22. I have been blind since birth and have always nurtured and taken care of and even raised a few children for my mother. I hope for marriage and babies of my own after I complete school. Have any of you women had a child while being type 2 diabetic or have any of you men had a wife or a girlfriend with diabetes who has had a successful child birthing experience?
Some people have suggested that I give up on my dream of being a mother, I don't know if it's because of the diabetes or because of the blindness but i know that i am fully capable of being a great mother.
Thank you.

Re:Question about pregnancy and diabetes

Hello, I have had diabetes since the age of 5... for 31 years now. I have 4 kids..Yes, 4 and not problems. The ages are 16, 11, 7 and almost 6 (my only son). I am also visually impaired, completely blind in right eye and legally blind in left but can drive with my very strong glasses however, only in the day time. I do not have any major or really minor complication from diabetes, you know I am slow to heal somethimes if I step on something. So sweetie do not worry, enjoy life to the fullest, life is to long to worry about things. I am also an Artist, I travel, experienced the wild college years, camp, hike, swim, and just enjoy life. This is the only life you have so enjoy there is nothing you can't do.
