Traumatic Optic Neuropathy

My 13 year old son was injured in a tubing accident yesterday and we've been told he has traumatic optic neuropathy in his left eye. We are feeling pretty sad and scared right now. Does anyone have any experience with this? We could use some help.

Re: Traumatic Optic Neuropathy

A MRi with attention to the optic canal needs to be obtained. A fracture or damage to the nerve through this narrow canal needs to be identified. Sometimes there is edema which can resolve with time. Vision can than be restored.
