input needed to build an integrated development environment for the blind

Hi everyone, we at Auburn University are trying to builds a generic integrated development environment for the blind to have a better computer programming learning experience. I know some of you here are experienced blind programmers. We will greatly appreciate if you could shed some light to help us better frame our project. The following are our questions:

1. Do you know any integrated development environment for the blind available at this moment?

2. What features do the blind need the most when developing programs and are missing at this moment?

3. Are there features in the current integrated development environment for sighted users (e.g., visual studio) not appropriate or useful for the blind even with voice prompt?

We will also need help to evaluate and provide feedback for our integrated development environment after we finish the project. If you would like to provide your input to my questions or help with the evaluation, please either post a reply or email to msun0807@gmail.com. Many thanks!

Peter

I have a four year degree in computer science and I am a new grad.

I have done all my programming using a Windows operating system to either program using some sort of Visual Studio type software or I have telneted into a Unix environment through school.

The software I use to see the screen is Zoom Text. I am very interested in this topic.
