Application Review & Selection Process

Participant and mentor applications will be collected, reviewed, and summarized by AFB staff and presented to the AFB Blind Leaders Development Advisory Panel.

To protect the privacy of applicants and decrease bias in the selection process, all personally identifiable information will be removed from these application summaries.

Advisory Panel members will score each application using the applicable scoring rubrics available for download below:

The scores from each panel member will be totaled and used as the applicant’s final score. Participants and mentors will be selected in descending order based on these final scores.

Participant applicants working in the nonprofit sector are strongly encouraged to apply. Thanks to generous funding from American Express, 10 of the 16 Class of 2021 participant spots will be awarded to emerging leaders employed with nonprofit and social purpose organizations.

If a tie needs to be broken, the Advisory Panel will make a discretionary decision. Factors such as sector of work, educational or professional experiences, and demographic information may be taken into consideration to ensure diverse representation in the class.
