Ad Blocker Compatible with Screen Readers

SuperAdBlocker.com recently announced that its product for stopping pop-up ads has been enhanced to work compatibly with Window-Eyes. The company says that work has been done in collaboration with GW Micro, ensuring Super Ad Blocker's compatibility with Window-Eyes. Although other screen readers are not specifically referenced, a recent announcement says: "Super Ad Blocker is screen-reader aware and automatically configures itself for optimum performance when a screen reader is detected."

Kurzweil Acquired by Cambium Learning

On Thursday, April 7, Cambium Learning announced that they had signed an agreement to acquire Kurzweil Educational Systems. An education company located in Natick, Massachusetts, Cambium Learning was founded in 2003 by three former executives of Houghton Mifflin based on the belief that all students--including minority, at-risk, economically disadvantaged, and special student populations--can achieve at a high level.

Web Classes on Book Port

The American Printing House for the Blind is offering seven webcasts on using their popular reading device, Book Port. Sessions began July 12, 2005, and will run every Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. EST through August 30. Each session focuses on a particular aspect of using the device--from sending and organizing files, to navigating text files, to note taking or recording, and more. Sessions run about 45 minutes in length.

Window-Eyes Upgrade Released

GW Micro has announced the release of the public beta version of Window-Eyes 5.5. Following its earlier enhancement of accessibility in Microsoft Word with Window-Eyes 5.0, this latest upgrade increases support for accessibility in Microsoft Excel and provides improved support for such applications as Sonar, Visual Studio, Lotus Notes, Instant Messenger 7.5, and VISTA, the next version of Windows, due out in 2006.
