Free money for college. I bet that got your attention! Right now, AFB is making this happen: we are currently accepting applications for our 2015 scholarships. Visit www.afb.org/scholarships.asp to apply. We offer financial assistance to students who are legally blind (i.e., have best corrected visual acuity of 20/200 or less in both eyes and/or a visual field of less than 20 degrees in both eyes) who are pursuing all levels of post-secondary education, including those who will be, or are already, attending undergraduate, technical, or graduate schools. Thus, high school students in their senior year should apply as well as those working towards Associate, Bachelor, Masters, Doctorate, or other types of higher ed certifications.

There are 6 scholarships with a total of 11 winners, and the award amounts vary from $500 to $2,500, which can be used toward any kind of educational expenses, such as tuition, books, and adaptive technology.

The application period runs from February 1, 2015 through May 31, 2015. While we have already advertised this program through many venues, we absolutely desire to support as many visually impaired people as possible, so do feel free to spread the word, as well. Indeed, like us on Facebook, tweet about our scholarships, or share this information with your listservs. If you have any questions, please contact me, Tara Annis, at (800) 232-5463 or tannis@afb.net.
